  1. Well, you were warned…

  2. I have fond memories of DeathMaze 5000 and Asylum on the mighty TRS-80.

  3. I think this is in all of Denman’s “Continuum” games – “Deathmaze 5000”, “Labyrinth”, and “Asylum” at least. I am going to try it in “Asylum II” but I’m pretty sure that it worked there also.

  4. This is a very elaborate inminent death!

  5. Perhaps at the funeral afterwards they could play:
“And more, much more than this I did it Steinway.”

  6. Does the death still occur if you don’t look up?

    • You LOOK UP at any point during the game and a piano falls on you.

The note itself is technically safe.

      • I probably shouldn’t try to think too hard about the implication that there is constantly a piano hovering over you wherever you go.

      • My theory is that the ceiling is lined with precisely balanced pianos that tip over if you exhale in their direction.

  7. I suspect this was an homage to the Monty Python’s Flying Circus team, who would end sketches with a sixteen ton weight falling on the protagonist’s head viz. Self Defence Against Fresh Fruit, The Marriage Guidance Counsellor, The Bishop Sketch and others.

  8. I reckon that Monty Python themselves were inspired by early animation films in which pianos would frequently be dropped on poor unsuspecting cartoon animals.

  9. You could well be right. Maybe the trope codifier for piano jokes was Laurel and Hardy’s Oscar-Winning short The Music Box.

  10. Can you GIVE NOTE to someone else and maybe solve a puzzle that way?

  11. This is really funny.

  12. I remember this. Early 1980s. Gosh. I was in my mid-teens, if that.
